Learn & Lather!

Plants were abundant in Jurassic forests but flowering plants, like palm trees, had not yet evolved. Ferns and conifer trees were plentiful, as were early mammals, the first birds, and plant-eating dinosaurs.

As this was my first visit,...

...never ventured out of Mr. Franklin’s sight. I was nervous to say the least, but my fear soon turned to awe. Before my departure, two sauropods came into view and my heart leapt from my chest. I was literally frozen in place as I watched the magnificent creatures pass by. As large—and as tall—as the dinosaurs were, they were small when compared to the conifer trees. Amazing! I never would have imagined that. I will be sure to return to this place as I can come and go without disguising myself or Mr. Franklin. In fact, I think it may become my happy place. (Be sure to pack a solar fan next time and bring an additional jug of water.)

Franklin Divider

Key (purchased) – A fern fossil from the Morrison Formation (USA). Mr. Franklin is cranked and ready to go.

Arrival – Midday. Have decided not to hide Mr. Franklin with the reflective cover as I worry a quick departure may be necessary.

Scent/s – Mid to late day. I have never smelled anything more refreshing. Massive conifer trees fill my surroundings with the scent of pine and a very distinct, although unidentified, sweet aroma. The ferns exude the fragrance of damp soil (much like after a fresh rain) and combine with the trees to create a most rejuvenating atmosphere.  [ Custom-coated fabric (SX3) collected the scent in 5 minutes, 43 seconds (conditions: hot and humid). ]
